AOSH UK has developed qualifications that aim at enhancing knowledge of key environmental principles, best practices, and the process of working within an environmental management system. These qualifications place an emphasis on excellent delivery as well as the efficient utilization of interactive visual aids to encourage and inspire learners to put into practice the information that they have been taught.

AOSH UK Level 2 Award in Environmental Principles & Best Practices

Who needs this qualification? This qualification was developed to offer knowledge of essential environmental concepts and an introduction to environmental management systems. It has been awarded to those who meet the requirements. This qualification is for all members of the staff whose activities could have a substantial impact on the environment, as well as for any supervisors or managers who are being introduced to environmental issues for the very first time.

Learning outcome: Learners will build an understanding of key terms and definitions of pollution. Identify the primary local and global environmental impacts of their organization; learn the basic principles, key concepts, and importance of environmental law. Understand the business benefits of adopting an environmental management system, Identify key issues related to energy use and carbon management, waste minimization, water use, pollution, and emergency planning.

How much time will it take? 1-day or 2-half-day training courses are typical (9 hours).

Certificate validity: The Level 2 Award in Environmental Principles and Best Practice is valid for a period of three years.

Assessment Method: This qualification is assessed using both multiple-choice questions (also known as MCQs) and practical assessments. The Learner must gain a percentage pass in both the MCQ and the assessment in order for them to be awarded this qualification.

AOSH UK Level 3 Award in Environmental Management

Who needs this qualification? This qualification has been developed with the objective of enhancing the knowledge and comprehension of all personnel working within an environmental management system (e.g. ISO 14001). Those who have duties within an environmental management system are the target audience for this qualification (such as ISO 14001).

Learning outcomes:

Module No.1 after completing this module you will be able to:

  • Explain the need for Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
  • Discuss the fundamental concepts and terminologies used in EMS
  • Follow the fundamental systems used in EMS
  • Identify who is responsible for developing the ISO 14001 standard
  • Trace the timeline of ISO 14001 development
  • Assess the compatibility of ISO 14001 with other standards
  • Explain the timeline for transition to ISO 14001
  • List the benefits of ISO 14001 for organizations
  • Outline the benefits of ISO 14001 for stakeholder

Module No. 2 after completing this module you will be able to:

  • Summarize what is expected from top management
  • Explain why the context of an organization is important
  • Outline how to manage environmental risks
  • Describe the role of support functions
  • Define operational controls
  • Discuss how organizations enforce operational controls
  • Explain how organizations can deal with emergency situations

Module No.3 after completing this module you will be able to:

  • Explain performance evaluation in relation to environmental management systems
  • Appreciate various measurement functions
  • Describe the role of monitoring and analysis
  • Outline the benefits of internal auditing
  • Summarize the steps involved in management reviews
  • Discuss how continual enhancement can be achieved
  • List the ‘check’ and ‘act’ parts in an EMS

How much time will it take? 3-day training courses are normal (24 hours).
